LVU U18 Girls Complete Banner Season
The LVU Golden Lions U18 (93) girls completed their Fall, 2011 season, the best yet in the team’s history. The Golden Lions played in four tournaments from September through November, winning two and finishing as a finalist in two. Ranked 8th at U18 in PAE by GotSoccer, 6 by National Soccer Ranking, and 4th by Soccer in College, overall, in all competitions, the Lions finished the Fall season with a record of 17-4-1 with 48 goals for and 6 goals against.
The Golden Lions won Philadelphia Soccer Club’s Ross-Haney Tournament on Labor Day weekend with a record of 4-0-0. The team finished at 3-1-0 as a finalist in the Kirkwood Frederick Cup over Columbus Day weekend, losing a hard fought match 1-0 to FC Lehigh St. Thomas More U18. For the third year in a row, the Golden Lions won the Bethesda Thanksgiving Showcase, Nov. 11/12/13, defeating Lee Mt. Vernon, the Virginia U18 state cup champion 1-0, losing 1-0 to Maryland U18 state cup semi-finalist MD Rush Nike, and then beating the other Maryland U18 state cup semi-finalist, Bethesda SC Force 2-1 to clinch the championship. The following weekend, the team finished as a finalist in the CASL Showcase in Raleigh, NC, with a record of 1-1-1. The golden Lions defeated the New England Wave 2-1 and tied Atlanta Rush Nike 1-1, the Georgia U18 state cup semi-finalist, but lost a hotly contested final match 0-1 with Darlington (Georgia) Soccer Academy.
The Golden Lions finished second in PAGS U19 Division 1 behind FC Revolution though did not have a chance to play FC Rev because the match was postponed twice due to field conditions.
