Players are volunteering for the clinic as part of the United Gives Back program.  All players received a t-shirt and a ball.  This Saturday, April 20, is the last session.  Thank you to program coordinator Matt Baker.

]]> http://www.lehighvalleyunited.com/home/543885.html UNITED Boys Play Internationally 04/01/2013 09:48 PM http://www.lehighvalleyunited.com/home/707396.html Three of the LVU ’00 Boys team, Nick Blacklock, Euan Forrest and Alexander Wilsterman joined with 5 boys from South Jersey Barons and 2 boys from Morris United to play for the East Coast Selects team in the famous Mundialito7v7 tournament in Portugal and Spain.

In the group stage the team won 4 of their 5 games against teams from Spain, Portugal, Venezuela and Madeira with their only defeat being 2-4 against Real Madrid. The top 32 teams from the original 72 teams progressed to the Gold stage knock out stage, and the boys progressed to the last 16 of the tournament by defeating Fabril of Portugal on penalties, only to be drawn against the mighty Real Madrid again. Unfortunately the boys lost 0-4, but can feel proud to have been one out of the last 16 of the tournament which comprised, in addition to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Real Betis (Spain); AC Milan and Juventus (Italy); Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto (Portugal), Vasco da Gama (Brazil) and FC Zenit (Russia), some of the giants of the soccer world.

Before coming home the boys had the fun of scrimmaging Juventus on the beach.

The eventual Mundialito winners were Barcelona, with Real Madrid being knocked out in the semi final on penalties. In 9 games Real Madrid conceded only 4 games, but 2 of these were scored by East Coast Selects. A great achievement and a very memorable week for the boys.

Congratuations to both the '95 and '96 boys team for their great successes in the National League and Disney Soccer Showcase this past week.

Lehigh Valley United is pleased to have recently announced the launching of a groundbreaking Affiliation Program. 

The Regional Affiliation Program is a comprehensive program structured to bring the Greater Lehigh Valley area together to promote, develop and improve the sport of soccer.  The services offered in the Regional Affiliation Program include administrative guidance and support, coaching education and placement, soccer development programming and competition, and the overall leveraging of a broader range of resources amongst the Regional Affiliation Program partner organizations. 

The tagline ’United We Stand’ represents the intentions of the program and its’ members to improve the sport in all ways through collaboration, communication and the sharing of resources. 

"We are extremely excited and energized by the Regional Affiliate Program," says LVU Executive Director of Soccer Operations, Greg Ramos. "There are already a lot of very good soccer people and organizations in this region.  By working together we can be great, and provide even more opportunities for players, coaches and clubs."
 
ENCO, LV Magic, Saucon Valley SC, GBSL and Carbon United are the first to join the collaborative effort of raising the level of soccer in the region.

This prestigious event features boys born in the birth year 2000.  We invite you to watch the 8 participating teams (including our own LVU team) compete to earn the right to represent the United States in this international event!  Schedules will be out soon. 

While enjoying the games, take advantage of soccer clinics for players and for coaches/parents.   We also welcome vendors who wish to be part of the festivities!  Mr. Bill’s Poultry will be there with delicious food and LVU players will be hosting the ever popular United Gives Back stand featuring Alex’s Lemonade and Sno- Cones!  We will also be collecting gently used soccer gear.

Over the last five years LVU has put together an eclectic mix of soccer staff with wisdom and experience ranging from youth, college, and professional soccer. According to Greg Ramos, Executive Director of Soccer Operations at LVU, "the goal at LVU has always been to put together a soccer staff full of varied experiences and insight in the game. Our coaches each have strengths and expertise in different areas. Put these minds together, and we all become that much better."

 
LVU has certainly done just that. Kendall Walkes, Head Men’s Coach of West Chester University, and Erik Burstein, Head Women’s Coach at Kutztown University, have recently joined the LVU coaching ranks along side long time LVU coach and DeSales University Head Men’s Coach, George Crampton.

 
Many on the LVU staff are involved in the Olympic Development Program. Mike Gorni and Greg Ramos are Head Coaches of Eastern PA ODP Teams, Rob Hurley was former Director of Coaching for Eastern PA’s ODP Program, and Chris Bleam is current Region I Girls ODP Head Coach.

 
Continuing education and Professional Development is stressed at LVU. To keep up with an ever evolving game LVU coaches sharpen their skills in some of the top coaching courses in the country and abroad. Six Head Coaches at the club boast the United States Soccer Federation ’A’ license, the highest coaching credential available in the US. Crampton and Ramos went abroad to continue their education. Both have received Europe’s second highest coaching credential the UEFA ’A’ Licence by spending weeks at a time in the UK acquiring UEFA credits.

 
When taking a closer look, you’ll find the expertise very broad covering many important areas and specialties of modern youth soccer. Hal Foss and Cory Grove, Director and Assistant Directors of Goalkeeping, work with players daily. LVU affiliate, Orthopedic Associates of Allentown (OAA), connect the players and their families with the latest Sports Science information as well as timely care and treatment. LVU’s relationship as a Youth Development Partner of YSC & Philadelphia Union means the sharing of resources such as Union Coaching staff, Sports Psychology staff, and Sports Science staff. In return LVU has coaches and players working and playing at YSC, Philadelphia Union, and Union USL Affiliate Reading United AC.

 
The future also looks bright for the coaching staff at LVU. Many of its’ younger staff were former players for the club. Matt Baker, Sky Rimmele, Phil Lichtenwalner, Cory Grove, Alberto Chavez, Dan Grodziak, Sam Hayden, and Josh Foss, to name a few, have all come up the playing ranks of LVU to now find themselves on staff. Says Ramos, "I think its great! Its one of the things I’m most proud of. That those guys were impacted in such a strong way as players at LVU to want to come back and teach those same skills and traditions to the next generation is a true measuring stick of the job we do here. My dad would also be proud. He wasn’t about the wins and losses, but the impact made on young people. He’s left quite a wake. These young guys coming back and working here are a testament to that."

LVU is proud to have its' players involved at every level of the Philadelphia Union and YSC Youth Academy.  LVU currently has numerous players involved in all phases of the Union and YSC youth development system including: YSC Union Juniors 8-12's, Union Juniors Academy 13/14's, and Union Academy 15-18's.  Representation in a program of this caliber is a great honor and measure of soccer development at LVU.
